The Beauty Bloggers Tag

Yes my lovelies, you have read the title of this post correctly - I am doing another tag! As I'm sure you all know, I love doing tags as they let you get to know a little about me as a person and not just as some hands typing away on a laptop speaking about hauls and beauty products.

I was tagged by the lovely Emma- Louise from Belles Avenue and this tag just looks really fun! I have noticed this tag has been done by a few other beauty bloggers and they too have seemed to really enjoy it!

Source - Forgot the get the website address! I typed into Google Images 'makeup products' and this image was one of the search results that popped up :)

So let's begin ...

Why did you start blogging and how long have you been blogging for?

I started blogging during the summer months as I was home from university. As many students will know, when you're at uni you have ALOT of things you need to be doing - whether that's doing work or socialising. In my case it was work; I'm doing a law degree - difficult!
I was home for the summer and although I was loving the relaxing I found I didn't really have many things to be doing and I found it strange not being on my laptop. I had been bought some products that I had my eye on and when I got home I thought I would take some photos of them. My mum and auntie actually found me on my bedroom floor fussing around with the products and a camera trying to take photos. Of course, they asked me what I was doing and I replied 'I think I'm going to write a blog. I don't know how to do it but I'm going to try'. I have to admit they did look at me a little funny but they knew I was interested in beauty and watching peoples videos - I'd often just lay on my bed watching YouTubr videos as though it was the TV!
I started a blog on another blogging site and found I was really getting into it. However, the blogs I found myself reading and falling in love with were using Blogger. The features they had were amazing and looked so much better than mine! I kept going on my old site but when I got back to uni I decided I was going to use Blogger - I published my first feature on this site Friday the 14th of September 2012 saying hello to everyone and telling them I'd changed my blog address (kinda sad I know!) My first real feature was published on Saturday the 15th of September 2012 and the Little Beauty Blogg as you all know it was born! My first ever feature was on the Victorias Secret store on New Bond Street in London here.
Although I have only been blogging a little over 2 months I have fallen in love with it and I know this is something I am going to carry on doing for as long as there are people wanting to read what I write :) I have come a long way in the short amount of time and I thank you all for helping my little slice of the internet gain popularity! I owe you all!

Whos blog did you first fall in love with?

In all honesty, I didn't fall in love with a blog in the beginning. There are a lot of blogs out there that I love now but in the beginning I was hooked on YouTube channels. I just loved watching them and hearing about the products people loved and didn't like - it was a great way to add things onto my wishlist. The channels I loved were FleurDeForce and TheClaudiaCouture. Both of these YouTube'rs have blogs and I'm super confident you have all heard of FleurDeForce here. I also love Claudia; she's such a lovely down to earth person and although she is younger than myself I find her so articulate. She seems beyond her years (in a good way). Her blog is lovely and there are a mixture of different features here.

What was the first blogosphere hyped about product you bought and was it worth the hype?

To be honest I don't really buy lots and lots of different products just because I have seen other bloggers rave about them. I find that there are so many loved products out there that if you bought every single hyped about product you'd be forever buying and never have any money!
Before I started blogging, I watched YouTube videos and I watched a lot of girls rave about Burts Bees lip balms - as far as I knew they were only available in America but I was wrong! I found them in Boots and picked up 2 different flavours - I love them and they work a treat on my lips when they're dry and chapped. Therefore, definitely worth the hype!!
Another hyped about product in the blogosphere is the Collection 2000 Lasting PErfection Ultimate Wear Concealer. I picked up this concealer because I needed a new one and happened to come across the product on another beauty blog. This reminded me that I intended to pick this little beauty up and it really is amazing! It cost me something silly like £4.19 from Superdrug and considering it is so cheap it works wonders! I would compare it slightly to my beloved Boi-ing concealer from Benefit here. This concealer is definitely worth the hype and is amazing. I would recommend it to any woman - it's cheap and is a great staple product to have in your makeup bag.

What are your favourite five things about blogging and being a beauty blogger?

My first favourite thing has to be talking to and meeting new beauty bloggers! There are so many lovely girls out there who are willing to chat to you even though you're a newbie and they're a little more established than yourself. It's such a welcoming community!
The second thing I love about blogging is having my own slice of the internet. I know this sounds really weird but it's amazing to know that there are so many websites and other blogs out there but people choose to click onto your page and read what you have to say. I love logging into Blogger and looking at my stats and traffic sources. I never ever imagined anyone would be interested in reading what I had to say so I appreciate absolutely every single view, comment and subscriber - you're all amazing!
The third thing I love about blogging is being able to express myself about things I love or don't. I'm normally sticking my head in law books and preparing for tutorials ect and being able to come onto my blog and share my thoughts/opinions about things I'm passionate about is a really fun break! Of course, I love my degree (otherwise I wouldn't have chosen to do it) but blogging gives me something to do during my free time and I love it so far!
The fourth thing I love about being a beauty blogger is the way in which people sometimes ask me for advice. I don't claim to be a beauty guru and I don't think that I am but it's always nice when people ask you for tips regarding makeup or ask you what products you use. It's nice to know someone is reading your blog and values what you're saying. I love getting private messages from readers and when someone on Facebook told my they'd actually bought some products because they'd seem them featured on my blog I was over the moon!
The fifth and final thing I love about blogging and being a beauty blogger is the opportunities it has presented me with! Never ever in a million years did I ever think that I would ever be followed on Twitter by companys! I think one of the mistakes some beauty bloggers make (a small number who are an exception) is think that as soon as they start blogging companys will come flooding their postbox with samples. No, it doesn't work like that! Of course it's lovely to be able to chat to PR companys and recieve emails from people but that's all part of recognition. Hard work pays off, remember that :)!

*These favourite things are in no particular order, I love all these things and more about blogging. As I could only choose 5 I chose the first 5 that popped into my head :')

What have you learnt from being a beauty blogger?

The thing that I have learnt from being a beauty blogger is to do your research before you dive in and purchase something. Just because a well known beauty blogger likes/dislikes the product doesn't mean you will have the same opinion! You need to have a look around, google the product and see if there are any more features. Never let someones opinion 100% influence you. Of course, you're bound to be influenced by the opinions of bloggers but don't take it as being set in stone because we all have different skin types, likes/dislikes and opinions :) Go into the shop and ask if they have any samples - usually, they'll be willing to give you one!

Have you changed anything since becoming a beauty blogger?

I have changed lots and lots of things. However, one thing I have changed is my outlook on my blog. I started it thinking it would be a hobby that only I enjoyed writing and reading - I never imagined that I would interest other people with my ramblings.
My opinion on blogging has also changed. I assumed that this would just be a little hobby that I did some nights or at the weekend because I was bored and didn't have anything to do. Ooh my, how wrong I was! Blogging absorbs you and you grow such a love for it super quickly! It's amazing and I'm so glad I plucked up the courage to start! Just a shame the same can't be said for YouTube - I'm still trying to grow a pair and get on there!!

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a beauty blogger.

The main thing would be to blog about something you're interested in and to write about what you want to write about it. Don't start blogging for PR samples or anything because at first they're not going to come. You need to be realistic about things and focus on what you write. I'd advise someone to blog about what they know and love - don't blog about beauty because you think it looks ok, blog about beauty because you're passionate and want to share your thoughts and opinions with other fellow beauty junkies!
Also, one HUGE piece of advice that I would give to any blogger just starting out is KEEP IT CLEAN! Remember, when you go for a job interview or are in the workplace and mention you have a blog; your employer WILL find out and will probably check up. You don't want to be writing about disgusting inappropriate things or swearing all over the place. Write a blog that is clean and would make you proud to show to family, friends, work colleagues or your boss. Also, another piece of big advice would be to make different Twitter and Facebook accounts. You don't want to go writing the nitty gritty of your personal life all over your blog and accounts. Have a Twitter and/or Facebook for the blog and also have a Twitter and/or Facebook that is personal and for friends and family only. I also suggest that you keep these personal profiles private; employers seem to like this, so I have heard.

Name your top five brands.

I absolutely LOVE Lancome, as I'm sure you're all aware. I find their products are amazing and they're really lovely to use on your skin. They give amazing finish and I just think they're worth the money. I'm happy to splash out on Lancome.
Another brand I love has to be Chanel - of course I had to give them a mention. I have some nail varnishes by Chanel and they're amazing! I have of course looked at so many of their products and tried them out and they're just wonderful. I love that they give you that added bit of luxury and their packaging is amazing!
The third brand I love is the body shop! I love the way their products are cruelty free and they don't test of any animals act. They also raise a lot of money and there are generally just some lovely core princples behind the brand. I currently use some of their products and they do the trick without braking the bank.
Another brand I love is MAC. I'm not going to say that every single product they do is amazing because it isn't - I had such a rubbish time with my foundation and powder; it was just the total wrong colour for me and was too orange based :( However, some of their lip products look amazing and a lot of their brushes are on my wishlist! If only they weren't so expensive.
Finally, I love OPI. The formula of their nail polishes is amazing and there is such a huge range of colours to choose from. They're not bad prices and the bottles are big which means it's going to last you a while. They stay on your nails for a reasonable amount of time and therefore I have no complaints really!

Recommend your top five favourite beauty products.

I have to cheat here and say a few products from Lancome! I don't want to say everything because there may be some bad products they have created but I use quite a few and I have never had any problems with their quality or way in which they react with my skin. I don't want to just list them all because there's a few so if anyone has any questions please comment below or ask me on Twitter and I will definitely get back to you with an opinion!
Another product I love is Burts Bees lip balm. I suffer from such dry and chapped lips (all year round) because I have such a naughty habit of licking them! My Burts Bees works wonders. Literally, I can have cracked sore lips before bed, apply a thick layer of lip balm, go to bed and wake up with wonderful pain free lips - amazing!
A product I would recommend for anybody is the Collection 2000 LAsting Perfection Concealer. This concealer is super cheap and does the trick amazingly well. It lasts well, doesn't crease, doesn't smudge and most importantly doesn't aggravate my sensitive skin!
Something many many beauty bloggers are raving about at the moment is the Crescent Moon highlighter from Topshops makeup line. It is usually priced at £10 but only cost me £9 as I have a student card and applies really well. I would compare it to more higher end highlighters that I have tried and for £10 is a total bargain! It looks amazing on the skin and isn't too shimmery so you don't look like some form of glitter fairy.
A final product I'd recommend is the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette. I looked at the original Naked and just preferred the colours in the Naked 2 (they're a lot more metallic) and they're all perfect for creating a neutral smokey eye. You don't even have to create a smokey eye with the colours you can just sweep one over your eyelid. The best thing is they're all neutral colours and this is something I'm a huge fan of. A lof of people believe this product is too overly priced and if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to this £36 palette I believe MUA offer one for £4.
